Program Description: This fellowship was created in 2005 shortly after the founding of the Atlantic Health System Division of Urogynecology. The program is based out of Morristown Hospital and Overlook Hospital - two large tertiary care hospitals in Northern New Jersey (close to NYC). Fellows will have opportunities to develop excellent skills in patient care, research, and education. The program is designed to meet all requirements of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology – and prepare graduates well for careers in academic or private medical practice. An application for ABOG certification will be submitted this summer. Salary and benefits will be those of PGY-5, 6 and 7 within the Atlantic Health System.
The program offers a comprehensive approach to clinical evaluation and management of women with disorders of the pelvic floor including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, defecatory dysfunction and voiding dysfunction. A balance of surgical and non-surgical management is stressed. Surgical management emphasizes vaginal and laparoscopic minimally invasive techniques – including robotic assisted surgery. Click Here to view highlights of clinical patient volume during the 2005 & 2006 calendar year. Rotations with other specialties such as urology, geriatrics, & colon and rectal will occur during the second and third fellowship years. We also have a full-time clinical research nurse who will assist with any fellow-initiated projects.
Our clinical office space consists of two brand-new facilities (one on each hospital campus). The office and operating room facilities and equipment at both hospital locations are brand new including state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment - urodynamics, diagnostic and operative office-cystoscopy, biofeedback / E-stim, and a database of clinical information that can be used for research. We also have access to the Atlantic Health System Institute of Bioskills Training & Innovations located in the same building as our clinical office at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
